This poem was written by a high school student at Callendar House in September 2025, during a workshop delivered by Never Such Innocence, in response to Diana Forster’s art exhibition Somewhere to Stay.
It’s not running
Though some may say it is
Running requires choice
Running is not being told
Running is not being led
Running is not being forced
Running is better than this
Running feels like it has a purpose
Running knows that you want to go
Running will chase you and chase you non stop
But running is better than this
This is sitting on a runaway train
This is living in a rolling stone
This is following out of fear
There are ways I’d rather go
I’d rather run
